If your game is a “benchmark title,” and everyone knows it, the CPU and GPU manufacturers will bend over backwards to make sure their hardware runs your game the best it possibly can, a big win for the developer and consumers.įortunately, Gas Powered Games has seen the wisdom of making Supreme Commander a “benchmark title.” It’s a good thing, too. It’s a shame, really-we need better ways to compare PC performance, and adding a benchmark mode to your game has benefits well beyond the obvious marketing advantage of having your game mentioned in hundreds of hardware reviews for a year or more after its release.
